ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses why communication with your child’s teacher is a vital part of your child’s educational success. If you communicate with the teacher they will get to know your child as an individual and start to develop a deeper care and concern. Teachers in middle and high school appreciate your help as well and often get overlooked since most parent involvement is in elementary. Don’t be afraid to directly ask your child’s teacher, “How do you prefer to be communicated with?” The teacher wants to know from you what works at home so she can follow through in the classroom just as you want to know how to support classroom instruction at home.
