ABSTRACT

Five issues related to Medicare For All are outlined in this chapter. The Affordable Care Act and the push for a public option by the Biden Administration and why neither will save money are explored using among other factors the issue of adverse selection. Next, it is shown that the US Government already funds 64% of healthcare spending and that 60% of Americans support the federal government providing healthcare to all residents and more than half of practicing physicians support a single-payer system. Potential job loss resulting from the implementation of Medicare For All is identified and placed in perspective. Possible avenues to fund Medicare For All are then presented.
