ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the disability themes of inclusion and participation of Reinders and Swinton. There is a comment on speciesism, disablism and the profoundly disabled person since Wojtyła assumes the significance of being human. The chapter explores Wojtyła’s philosophical method and his thought on the I–other relationship where the other human being is always a someone from the beginning. The themes of encounter and participation emphasise the person to person relationship of the self to the other. The move to seeing not self and other but us is reinforced in the practical principles of Catholic Social Teaching. The chapter ends with a discussion on the relationship of philosophy and theology and the otherness of God.
