ABSTRACT

Beach soccer's contemporary form reflects vibrant development in the last twenty years. This work builds on a longer, richer set of histories. This chapter unpacks a broad linear narrative that contextualises a range of stages in its development in Brazil, in the United States (US) in southern Europe and its more recent emergence in Oceania. In mapping historical territories this chapter offers opportunities to examine beach soccer's growth, some of its past and present struggles, and identify matters for further research.
