Have You Had Any Positive Experiences with a Director Who Understood Identity Consciousness?

This chapter covers actors of color expressing appreciation for those directors (and other theater creatives, such as playwrights) who understand color-conscious casting. Many discuss working with directors of color who understand their identity and use it to help them create fully realized characters who are infused with their identity. They also express appreciation for not having to explain the reasons for the choices they make based on their identities, and the safety they feel in a room led by someone who looks like them.
