Have You Had Any Negative Experiences with a Director Who Did not Understand Identity Consciousness?

This chapter covers negative experiences and how some directors do not recognize the need for cultural specificity. They expect generic representations of identity and do not recognize the help that actors of color need when trying to play specific identities that are not connected to their cultural backgrounds. Often the directors do not see the implications of the roles in which they are placing the actors of color and the stereotypical tropes that are being reinforced.
