ABSTRACT

Chapter5 on India’s Malacca dilemma explains the Indian Navy’s keenness to take an active role in ensuring freedom of navigation and safety of Malacca Straits. As the country’s trade and energy relations are growing with the Asia-Pacific economies, the imperative of securing this choke point is felt strongly. But the strait powers are against allowing such role to the IN or any other navy. India is only given “user state” and “funnel state” status to use this strait for navigational purposes.
