ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 on QUAD is about the four power multilateral response to the fast-changing geopolitical dynamics of Asia-Pacific, the rise of China specifically. While three of the QUAD are Pacific powers and hence have the genuine reason to worry about China, India starkly is an outsider separated by geography and a nautical distance of over 3,000 miles away from the region. Detailed account of IN’s efforts to integrate with the strategic and maritime agencies of the United States, Japan and reluctant Australia is given. In the execution of the QUAD commitments, government versus IN’s differing approaches are explained.
