ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter reflects on the arguments provided in this book. It starts with a summary of the findings by explaining the arguments made on EU member states’ involvement in supporting regional integration multilaterally as well as bilaterally, but also the effects of those differentiated initiatives on the EAC. The chapter then highlights the research and policy implications resulting from this study. In this context it is shown how the findings could promote further understanding in the fields of regionalism promotion, development aid research as well as African regional integration processes. The chapter winds up by calling for improvements in terms of donor coordination and emphasising that African countries should reduce their donor dependency when it comes to financing programmes and initiatives related to their integration activities.
