ABSTRACT
To use a Chinese numerical metaphor, there are ten thousand evidences and proofs of the fact that Confucius has already taken birth in China. The people’s Confucius has emerged and continues to emerge from below to the top, while the official Confucius emerged and continues to emerge from top to the bottom. People’s Confucius, people hope, shall be the voice of reason and restrain. In Mao’s China – beginning Yanan era till Mao’s death in 1976 – the catchword was ‘Struggle’. Harmony becoming the key expression of Chinese communists has huge conceptual implications. It is a proof that China has moved away from Marxism and Maoism in the direction of Confucian denouement. The people, on the other hand, have lot of expectations from a returned and reborn Confucius. The people’s expectations are that the government has to be more responsive and accountable to them.
