ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the multiple educational initiatives aimed at peace and reconciliation from the 1970s through the Good Friday Agreement. These projects include the development of integrated schools and various curricula initiatives, such as Education for Mutual Understanding. These education-related peacebuilding projects have inevitably reflected the circumstances in which they were designed and implemented but they have also built upon, or at least been informed, by each other. This chapter also includes a brief history of education in Northern Ireland and an overview of the education system today to set the stage for understanding the context of the education initiatives in the past and present. The chapter focuses on the themes of contact, integration, and curriculum.
