ABSTRACT

The secret of progress in the science of Industrial Fatigue is the adoption of the experimental method, and the rate of progress depends very largely on the interest and co-operation of employers. The weekly hours of work in most industries are now fixed on a reasonable scale by arrangement between employers and employees, though some of the smaller industries, which are not backed by powerful Trade Unions, still lag behind the general movement in favour of shorter working hours. The effect of occupation and other conditions on the health of the workers can only be ascertained if systematic records are kept of the time lost from sickness.
