ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will try to understand some important sociological concepts. An understanding of these concepts is essential for an overall understanding of the social structure and process of social change in society. Being of recent origin, sociology has at its disposal rich and diverse sources of knowledge in the form of other developed social sciences to comprehend society and its various social processes in a holistic manner. We would also briefly discuss about the scope of sociology and its relationship with other social sciences. Given the importance of interdisciplinary nature of studies in contemporary times, this section would greatly help the learner in understanding society and its various social processes in a comprehensive manner. Since a social phenomenon does not occur in vacuum, it is necessary to study and understand it in terms of its various correlates such as social, economic, political, psychological, historical, etc.
