ABSTRACT
This chapter briefly overviews the discipline of linguistic archaeology, first by making a quick historical overlook of the discipline and then continuing on to point out some of the important challenges. Here, the chapter tries to focus on the important future directions of compilation of empirical data, the increasing use of experimental data, and the necessary improvement of methods and models for reconstructing linguistic prehistory.
