ABSTRACT
This is the third chapter dealing with core methodologies, in this case the phylogenetic method. As this is the most recently developed approach, the chapter will describe how it has emerged out of the comparative and typological methods, in combination with computational statistics and bioinformatics. Just as in previous chapters, the introduction and general overview will be followed by a section focusing on the data-mining process, which in phylogenetics is mostly qualitative and relies on traditional comparative work.
