ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the letters from maestro Prisco’s second phase of immigration, between 1905 and 1907. The start of his second phase is marked by Prisco sending the Senator a photograph of himself, revealing his physical appearance for the first time since his departure three years earlier. The sending of this first photograph signals a moment of internal change and a milestone in the construction of Prisco’s new American identity. The second part of the chapter follows the maestro’s career as a now well-known private tutor and member of the Waldorf Hotel orchestra, all the way up to his success in the 1907 Piedigrotta competition.
