ABSTRACT

Technology has been changing the whole pattern of present lifestyle as is evident in the sphere of education through the application of various technologies. This chapter discusses another important innovation of the education system, namely the “Intelligent Tutoring system” (ITS). It provides a broader spectrum of knowledge regarding the ITS and its functions in education. The revolutionary inclusion of computers and information and communication technology has entered present-day life including education allowing more independence with respect to time and place. In the mid-1900s, when the digital computer was introduced, it paved the way for what can truly be called “intelligent machine”. The tutoring model of ITS provides a guideline to perform three levels of instructional activity namely; planning an individual route through the curriculum, planning lessons, and online tutorial intervention.
