ABSTRACT

Electronic is denoted by “e” and when one uses any electronic device for learning it is called “e-learning”. Information and communication technology expands that scope, now everyone can learn through electronics from anywhere and at any time. This chapter explores a comprehensive discussion about e-learning as a mode of teaching and learning. E-learning is based on Technology Enhanced Learning where learning only takes place through the use of various electronic mediums such as TV, radio, computers, etc. Beginning from the core aspect it is imperative to focus on the early invention of e-learning that is “The Testing Machine” developed by Sidney Pressey in early 1920. Expectation means a specific learning goal of a specific learning community in the context of participation in a specific e-learning course. The learning environment is one of the very crucial aspects of any teaching and learning process.
