ABSTRACT

This chapter provides explicit knowledge about different educational resources that are not structured as authoritative sources of knowledge but rather alternative educational resources that are more open and authorizing in nature, that foster free reuse and free repurposing by others for educational purposes namely “Open Education Resources (OER)”. It provides contextualization of the historical journey of open educational resources by highlighting some milestone years of innovation and activities. The chapter discusses “copyright” and “open licensing” in the context of online and offline resources. The “open licensing” system is a revolutionary movement that has developed and evolved over the past two decades. India stepped forward toward an open educational movement in 2007. The majority of open educational resources are based on internet access. As per open educational resources there is a huge concern about the language and cultural barriers in the context of available learning material.
