ABSTRACT

The computer brings various changes in our education system and its impact on methods of teaching and learning as well as educational management and administration. This chapter discusses computers and their functions and application in education. In a simplistic way, it can be said that a computer is an electronic device intended to work with information. The term “computer” is derived from the Latin term “comutare” which means calculate or programmable machine. Computer-assisted instruction means the use of computer devices to carry out an instruction which is sometimes also called computer-aided instruction. A computer is a powerful tool and when it is used for educational purposes it can change the way of instruction and the learning process. The content material involved in computer-assisted instructions is mainly based on the principle of small steps. Computer-assisted instruction can provide a learning environment where students can drill and practice their lessons effectively.
