ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some commonly used patterns that have been used in the conventional group communication process. The major difference among the pattern is the degree to which they are centralized or decentralized. The wheel pattern of communication is the most structured and centralized compared to other communication patterns. An illustration of the wheel process of communication. As per the centralization point of view, the chain network pattern of communication is the second-highest pattern of communication. The Y network pattern of communication is similar to the chain network. The foremost attribute of circle pattern communication is three-level hierarchies. Communication is the mechanism of transferring a message from sender to receiver. Small-group communication refers to the communication between more than two persons to exchange their ideas or thoughts by any medium. A linear model of communication mainly explains the “one-way communication process” whereby a sender encodes a message and sends it through the medium to the receiver.
