ABSTRACT

This chapter details a specific use of the culturally responsive experiential education (CREE) model during a month-long experiential education (EE) program in rural Fiji alongside 20 undergraduate students in 2019. First, this chapter offers a comprehensive explanation of how each layer of the model was contextualized and implemented. This overview lays the foundation for the research study findings that are discussed in subsequent chapters. Next, this chapter explains customization of the model to fit each EE program’s specific needs, constraints, and opportunities. Finally, this chapter offers a discussion on how assessment was used at the end of the program to honor both student learning and community field partners.
