ABSTRACT

This chapter first offers the reader a distinction between the main types of didactic subtitling (DS), differentiating between intralingual, interlingual and creative subtitling. Then, it concentrates on justifying communicative skills enhancement through DS, especially in terms of audiovisual reception and production, and mediation skills. Didactic SDH is dealt with in a separate section to specify the main differences of this task when compared to DS. Next, sample guidelines for students to succeed in the pedagogical application of both didactic subtitling and didactic SDH are offered, as well as sample assessment rubrics for both tasks. Finally, a series of lesson plan samples is presented to provide successful examples of didactic subtitling and didactic SDH practice.
