ABSTRACT

This chapter considers whether it was possible that Seth Meyers’ roast of Donald Trump at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner prompted Trump to run for office. The chapter begins to answer this question by looking back at the long history of Trump jokes—especially those that emerged well before April of 2011. A survey of Trump jokes shows a pattern of specific categories that continue to this day. It also shows that once Trump became a political candidate, he almost immediately became the most mocked politician of all time.
