ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the age-old cliche of the ‘Road to Recovery': a rather obvious and popular metaphor describing one's journey to wellness. The ‘recovery journey' is a helpful metaphor to unpack when thinking about some roadblocks. The chapter details six flashcards to explore what could be helpful in terms of people's future recovery journey. In recovery, the aim is to work slightly outside people's comfort zone eventually resulting in their comfort zone growing bigger. Trivial Pursuit is a board game that involves answering questions on general knowledge and popular culture to receive a triangle of cheese. The cheese segment has a different colour depending on the question subject. Trauma recovery requires the individual to slowly begin discovering healthier coping mechanisms that can bring them closer to their Window of Tolerance. ‘Real but not true' was originally coined by Buddhist teacher Tsoknyi Rinpoche, but Tara Brach has popularised this quote through her writing and talks.
