ABSTRACT

The following options have been devised when thinking about how flashcards could be utilised within clinical practice: to be used as flashcards alone; for the individual to copy the image quite closely, possibly changing some aspects of the image to their liking; and for the individual to create their interpretation of the metaphor. Those who engage in the art-making aspect of this project are creating their own personal psychoeducational material. These flashcards can be used as visual aids when offering verbal psychoeducation in a session with an individual or group setting. As well as offering the choice to individuals in either of these settings to creatively respond to the material available. The first 12 psychoeducational flashcards have been divided into a red and orange section and are dedicated to how trauma affects the brain and body. The view that trauma is something that happens externally can be disempowering, as people cannot rewind time and change the terrible event.
