ABSTRACT

This opening chapter sets the tone for the rest of the book – outlining the three sections of the book, the three tenets of the Purpose-Driven Learning pedagogy. Teachers must intentionally seek to create a space of inclusion where their students can develop their sense of belonging. Teachers must learn a new language of learning that does not focus on content, testing, or grades. The Keys of Purpose-Driven Learning offer them an intentional language rooted in social-emotional learning. Finally, students must be empowered with the skills to articulate and assess their learning. This transformative pedagogy makes the bold claim that the purpose of school is to unlock and empower the drive for authentic, holistic lifelong learning that is innate in every person.
