ABSTRACT

At camp, the campers and counselors head out onto the trail or paddle along the river for extended overnight trips into the wilderness. They must face any obstacles that come their way in order to make it to their final destination. The challenges of their trail or rigors of the river are not much different than life – when the inevitable challenges arise, teachers and students must step back, breathe, make a plan, and keep moving forward. This chapter explores the importance of building resilience within our schools – not only for the academic success of the students, but for their mental health and social-emotional well-being.
