ABSTRACT

Referred to as the “Cornerstone Key,” confidence is a foundational skill of social-emotional learning. Supported by experiences of developing confidence in students through theatre performance, this chapter challenges most people’s number one fear – a fear of public speaking. It explores the power of theatre in building confidence and offers accessible action steps for encouraging students to show up, stand up, and speak up in order to discover and develop their innate confidence. One’s ability to articulate their learning, express their thoughts and ideas, and boldly share who they are with the world takes a confidence that shines in the spotlight.
