ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a humorous look at the author and his challenges with focus as a person with ADHD. It shares a story of one of his students – a young boy with ADHD who will remind most teachers of students they have had. Energy and exuberance can be challenging in a traditional classroom. Teachers often think of a focused student as one who sits quietly and stays on task. In this chapter, educators will explore all three types of focus: inner, outer, and other. By expanding our understanding of focus, teachers can more fully meet students where they are and help them grow from there.
