ABSTRACT

In band, orchestra or choir, musicians count on each member to know their part, practice hard, and be prepared to perform in the concert. On the football field, each teammate counts on the exact same thing – every member working hard and contributing to the overall success of the entire team. Schools often think of the arts and athletics as opposites, but their ability to develop and demonstrate dependability is two sides of the same coin. In this chapter, teachers will look through the lens of both arts and athletics to explore essential steps in developing “moonshot dependability” between their students within their classrooms – so with trust and respect, the whole class can reach new heights.
