ABSTRACT

This chapter will explain the concept of landscape archetypal elements – scarcely found in nature – and their origins in psychoanalysis as well as the mechanisms in which they are believed to work universally for all humans. It will provide a thorough description and examples of all seven archetypal elements found in urban landscape scenes. Each of the elements will be described in a separate section as follows: Forest, path, and clearing; Desert; Water; Single old tree; Stone/rock; Mountain/hill; Circle.
