ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the examination of crews. The chapter reemphasizes the important role crews play in resilient organizations. To purposefully build resilience, organizations must consciously consider what kinds of crews to prime, when to launch them, and when to disband them. Leaders and executives must purposefully work to build the capabilities that allow for appropriate conflict, difference, disagreement, and opposition to strengthen the organization. Otherwise, sizable upheavals will come from competitors and damaging trends will negatively shape the future of the ill-equipped. The chapter concludes by returning to The Ohio State University and showing that resilient organizations consistently look ahead for ways to improve and evolve. Such organizations are almost always focused on the next challenge, even while working to resolve current challenges. They do not rest on their laurels; they look to the future, trying their best to discern and prepare for significant change in a complex world.
