ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the topic of capital within resilient organizations. It begins with a narrative from a retail pet store dealing with online competition and COVID. This case study serves to bring attention to the powerful and important use of capital by resilient organizations, both large and small. Such use requires a careful balance of preserving the status quo, branching into new territory, and the knowledge of when to do which. Resilient organizations leverage resource, relationship, and information capital in surprising ways.
