ABSTRACT

This chapter takes on strategic discussions. If specific resources are significant for security and development, then states will block or deny competitors access to these materials. Four major resources: natural gas, water, rare earth elements, and money (buying power) will serve as contemporary examples. It will also analyze investments in the military as part of the wider global security dilemma. There also seems to be a race to build up military bases around the world to protect global supply chains. Areas like the Arctic and the Indian Ocean are significant to this endeavor.
