ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter to the book Digital Storytelling as Translanguaging: A Practical Guide for Language Educators, the authors highlight the major themes from the volume, including translanguaging and the importance of storytelling. The benefits of digital storytelling are reviewed, including how it creates a community of storytellers in the language learning classroom and beyond, improves language skills and critical language awareness, promotes translanguaging, and encourages linguistic social justice in classrooms, schools, and societies. The authors also revisit a challenge of digital storytelling explored in the guide: assessment. While digital stories are a good alternative assessment of language learning, assessing MLs’ digital stories as creative works raises a number of questions. The authors encourage readers to engage in their own digital storytelling projects and to share them widely.
