ABSTRACT

This chapter covers foundational concepts and skills necessary to integrate theater and movement activities across the K-6 curriculum. Theater basics will be introduced such as how to build an ensemble, how to encourage students to make bold and brave creative choices, and how to prepare students to be successful as both performers and observers. Basic improvisation skills will also be introduced that will teach students how to create scenes on their own, a skill that will be used later to create performances in social studies and literacy. Readers will be introduced to the idea of sculptures as an instructional tool as well as how to use gestures to boost learning in any subject.
