ABSTRACT

This chapter lays the foundation for the work through grounding into foundational literature of the field, including a critique of how colonialism has occupied the field of psychology historically; an introductory review of Hillman's approach to healing the Western soul through mythopoetic approaches; Jung and his history of racism; an explanation of the violence of cultural stealing and appropriation; the use of the term decolonisation; the history of racism and colonialism in Canada; the complexity of settlers’ roles in decolonisation and unsettling processes; issues with reconciliation; the danger of engaging with decolonisation as a settler move to innocence and a review of Critical Race Theory and its founding thinkers.
