ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the alchemical operation related to the element of water and how it relates to the colonial psyche. It examines how the colonial psyche has manifested the negative expressions of this operation through its vilification, oppression, and repression of body and sexuality. This can be seen in the history of residential schools where priests and nuns sexually assaulted thousands of Indigenous children; malnourishment experiments being inflicted on Indigenous children and Eugenics boards throughout so-called Canada unconsentually sterilising Indigenous people. This chapter then examines how the settler colonial today can engage instead with the positive potential of this alchemical operation to work toward healing, and concrete changes in beliefs, behaviours, and actions in their accountability, unsettling, and decolonising processes related to this element.
