ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on the women's post-abortion experiences. It unfolds the ways in which these women negotiate, contest, and navigate through sociocultural discourses of gender, sexuality, marriage, and family, and their reflection on the meanings of rights and choices. Despite the uniqueness of each individual's experience, there were shared values found across the women's narratives, which demonstrated their sense of obligation toward their families, their respect for sexual decency, and their aspirations to be responsible mothers. The moral standards embraced by the women resonated with the consequentialist ethics that emphasizes responsibility, especially in close relationships, which forms the essence of the women's ethical selves.
