ABSTRACT

The combination of political and social polarisation and the changing nature of work is leading, in many organisations and in wider society, to a breakdown in communication. In an organisation, communication facilitates the flow of information and understanding between people and departments through different media using various channels and networks. Conversations are the lifeblood of organisations and our most immediate way of creating change and a culture of belonging. Forward-thinking leaders understand there has never been a more important time to reconsider how they communicate and connect with people through their conversations – to innovate together, to think out loud, to help bring more meaning and joy to the workplace. Sara grew up in a close-knit family, from an early age, started to recognise she was privileged to have parents at home at the end of a school day, interested in what she had done – listening attentively to her and being there to talk about the highs and lows.
