ABSTRACT
This chapter examines some of the current and emerging trends impacting the conference and conventions industry. It also summarises key issues, challenges and opportunities generated by these trends. It examines trends for both in-person meetings and conventions and virtual and hybrid events. The chapter describes some of the applications and implications of new event technology before considering initiatives to reduce the environmental impacts of business events and to rethink the economic models for events. The chapter concludes with an optimistic forecast for the future of the conference and conventions industry.
