ABSTRACT

Group psychotherapy is a modality uniquely suited to address the isolation, shame and secrecy that accompanies BFRB engagement. The reader will learn how to utilize three key modern analytic group tools, the group contract, bridging between members and drawing aggression toward the leader, to address some of the defenses common among those who struggle with BFRBDs. The author walks the reader through 5 years and two iterations of a therapy group using several vignettes to illustrate the process of working through three key resistances: status quo resistance, compliance resistance and resistance to intimacy, as well as through the resolution of some of her countertransference resistances.
