ABSTRACT
Over the past couple of decades, the blueprint of the classical film score, which dominated films since the 1930s has been partially displaced by “musical sound design,” or the integrated soundtrack, which blends music with sound effects in a musically inspired overall sound design. This often includes music that functions like traditional sound effects and sound effects that function emotionally, more like music. The case study is the horror film Saw (2004).
