ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the historical development of education policies for rural migrant children to present the growing marginalization of rural migrant children in China’s urban education system. Two types of school education are offered for rural migrant children in China: Public education and private migrant education. Thus, using the evidence collected from two investigated case schools in the Sun District of Beijing, this chapter further compares the characteristics of school conditions and education provision for migrant children between the two case schools to illustrate the educational inequalities these children were facing on a daily basis in urban society.
