ABSTRACT

From far back in history, humans have been at war with nature in the form of other species called pests. These include crop eaters, disease vectors, and people biters. The recent history of pest control leads through the development of DDT and other synthetic insecticides, the bad consequences of which led to the development of less toxic varieties as well as heightening consciousness of the effects of humans on the environment. Bedbugs and mosquitoes themselves are far more stimulating for discussion than theory, so one could start with surveys of local pest control and branch outward to see the marvelous similarity between cultures worldwide in terms of the regionally specific pests they combat. Pest exterminators are employed on every continent, and, according to their websites, most drive panel trucks.
