ABSTRACT

The cases first presented in Chapter 7 are threaded through this chapter as the reader now practices frame shifting to different domains of teaching (i.e., relationships, classroom management, and curriculum and instruction) as first discussed in Chapter 3. By shifting the frame around the dilemmas presented in each case, the reader sees how different dilemma statements can be generated that then lead to the identification of different teacher moves to solve the dilemmas in each case. Just as in Chapter 7, the reader is given explicit guidance after the first case narrative in the text of the chapter. Then in the online Study Guide, the reader has more opportunities to practice frame shifting the second and third cases. In the second case, the description of the process is paused at key points as the reader thinks about next steps before proceeding. The narrative of the third case is then left for the reader to frame shift independently, with suggested answers following.
