In order to understand the subject of securities law, one first needs to understand what securities are. This chapter gives a clear definition of securities as well as their purpose and benefits. It discusses the various types that are available today and sets out the difference between securities, other investments, and commodities. Furthermore, it sets out what is involved in trading in securities as well as the benefits and risks involved in their trade.
