ABSTRACT

The Introduction establishes the book’s mentor-text-based approach and provides overarching information about the importance of grammatical concepts to effective writing. It features selected examples of mentor texts that demonstrate the book’s focus on using mentor texts to teach grammatical concepts in meaningful, relevant, and engaging ways that help students use these concepts in their writing. The Introduction also discusses the importance of this approach to early elementary grammar and writing instruction, identifies the grammatical concepts featured in the book, and provides information about the features of the book’s subsequent chapters.
