ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the best ways to assess students’ knowledge of grammatical concepts. The assessment approach described in this chapter extends logically and naturally from the instructional practices described in this book: just as those teaching recommendations value authentic uses of grammatical concepts and corresponding reflections, the assessment practices discussed here represent those same values and ideas. The chapter describes assessment activities and provides a graphic organizer and rubric that can be used to maximize the effectiveness of the assessment approaches described in this chapter.
